Marouane Fellaini prefers playing in midfield over attacking role

Manager Louis van Gaal's decision to deploy Marouane Fellaini in an attacking role doesn't appear to have been up for discussion following the Manchester United player's admitted preference to play in the midfield.

Fellaini says the proposal to play up front doesn't suit his style, but he ignored his weaknesses at the position in order to help the team when called upon.

"When the manager asks me to play somewhere, I play there. But my best position is midfield," Fellaini told Will Tidey of Bleacher Report.

It seems like a given Fellaini that would accept the assignment, since United's crowded midfield offers few opportunities to see the pitch.

Fellaini's often struggled at United since former manager David Moyes brought him to Old Trafford from Everton in 2013. Fellaini had a difficult debut season but regained his form the following year, netting six goals.

However, with Anthony Martial proving to be a fantastic summer purchase, Fellaini may not be asked to lead the attack as long as the young Frenchman continues to bang in goals on a routine basis.
