PSV, Mexico star Andres Guardado to miss 4-6 weeks with ankle injury

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

Mexico and PSV will have to play crucial games without vital midfielder Andres Guardado.

The Dutch club completed an MRI on Guardado, who injured his ankle in an otherwise celebratory 2-1 over Manchester United last week, and the results confirmed that he will be out for four-to-six weeks.

That means he will likely miss the next two Champions League games for PSV against CSKA Moscow and Wolfsburg, as well as the decisive playoff between Mexico and the United States on Oct. 10 for a place in the 2017 Confederations Cup.

A foul from United defender Chris Smalling in the 70th minute of the Champions League tie caused the problem.
