Phil Davis wants Jon Jones 'to get cleaned up and get back to action'

During his UFC tenure, top-10 light heavyweight Phil Davis could never quite climb to the mountaintop, but that didn't stop him from running his mouth at whoever was at the peak.

Then-UFC 205-pound champion Jon Jones was frequently the target of Davis' trash talk, and, although they existed within the same promotion for several years, their paths never crossed inside the Octagon.

Now, with Jones currently suspended indefinitely for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run accident, and Davis under the Bellator umbrella, they may never square off inside the cage. Regardless, Davis is rooting for Jones to bounce back from his personal problems.

"It's not really much I can feel other than I want him to get cleaned up and get back to action,” Davis told MMAjunkie.com's Mike Bohn. "I can't make fun of that. Whether he's world champion or just a guy down the street, I don't want anybody running into that kind of trouble. I don't want people to put themselves in those types of situations."

With no regrets looming over his head, Davis has his sights set on Bellator gold. The tournament to crown a new No. 1 contender in the light heavyweight division is set to kick off at Bellator 142 on Sept. 19.

"Sure, I wish I would have fought for a (UFC) title, but at the same time, I don't say, 'I wish this or I wish that,'" Davis said. "I think I'm blessed and lucky and have also had a great career fighting top-level guys."
