Victor Cruz still not practicing

New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz missed practice Wednesday and doesn't appear close to a return to the field.

Nothing has changed regarding Cruz's status, head coach Tom Coughlin told reporters.

Cruz is sidelined with a calf injury that's likely related to his recovery from the torn patellar tendon he suffered last season.

Earlier this summer, expectations surrounding Cruz were rosy. They have taken a decidedly more pessimistic turn in recent weeks.

For now, it appears unlikely Cruz will suit up for the Giants' season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. Rueben Randle is expected to start in his place.
