Keys through to Round 3, setting up potential Wimbledon rematch with Radwanska

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

While Serena Williams is breaking records and grabbing headlines, Madison Keys is proving the future of women's tennis in the United States could be just as bright.

The 20-year-old had a dominant showing Wednesday on Arthur Ashe Stadium, beating 100th-ranked Tereza Smitkova in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, with her only struggle seeming to come on the post-match handshake.

Smitkova could do nothing to challenge the 19th-seeded American, who cruised with six aces, 19 winners, and 11 unforced errors to win the match in just 54 minutes. With the victory, Keys has now advanced to the third round in all four Grand Slams in 2015.

In the third round, she may have a chance to avenge a recent loss to No. 15 Agnieszka Radwanska, who's expected to be her opponent. Radwanska eliminated Keys from Wimbledon in the quarterfinals in a tough three-setter, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.

Keys wasn't the only American to advance early Wednesday, with 25-year-old Madison Brengle reaching Round 3 of a Grand Slam for just the second time after beating Anna Tatishvili.

With seven more American women, including both Williams sisters, set to take the court later in the day, the fans at Flushing Meadows should have plenty to cheer for.
