Bruins' Rask preparing for another 70-game workload

Tuukka Rask isn't expecting many nights off this season.

The Boston Bruins franchise goalie and 2014 Vezina Trophy winner is preparing for another heavy workload in 2015-16, and appears set to reach the 70-game mark for the second-straight season.

The team as a whole had issues all over the ice, failing to qualify for the playoffs, but Rask felt no worse for wear at the end of the regular season.

"I just had my back a little sore at the end of the season, but aside from that I felt pretty good," Rask told Joe Haggerty of CSN. "Last year I had a lot of games in a row and you always try to stay fresh even though you play a lot of games. That wears you down more.

"But if it's going to be 70 games again then that's what it's going to be, and we'll just have to manage the rest."

With Niklas Svedberg having taken off for the KHL, an inexperienced trio of Malcolm Subban, Zane McIntyre, and Jeremy Smith will battle it out in training camp for the right to be Rask's backup.

Rask, 28, experienced a drop in his numbers last season from his Vezina-worthy campaign. While he fell only two wins off his career high of 36, his save percentage fell from .930 to .922, and his goals-against average ballooned from 2.04 to 2.30.
