Argos acquire Justin Blackmon's CFL rights

Suspended Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon has been added to the Toronto Argonauts' "confidential" negotiation list, according to Arash Madani of Sportsnet.ca.

The Argos would be eligible to sign Blackmon as long as he was not under league suspension or under contract with an NFL team. He is currently serving an indefinite suspension for multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy.

The fifth overall selection would likely only consider heading to the Argos if all of his NFL options had been exhausted. He becomes an unrestricted free agent following the 2016 season.

The talented Oklahoma State product caught 64 passes for 865 yards and five touchdowns during his 2012 rookie season, but has been away from the game for a full year and is not expected to return anytime soon.

By all accounts his time in Jacksonville is at an end, with general manager David Caldwell all but closing the door on a return recently.

"Realistically, when you're away from the game for two-and-a-half years," Caldwell said, "what you were once is not what you will probably be - your skills do erode, especially when you're not in shape and not in top football shape."
