The Oakland Raiders have cut running back Trent Richardson, according to Bill Williamson of ESPN.

The 2012 third overall pick was signed by the Raiders in the offseason after being released by the Indianapolis Colts, but apparently didn't do enough to stick on a roster that includes Latavius Murray, Roy Helu, and Taiwan Jones at running back.

After rushing for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns with the Cleveland Browns in his rookie season, the former Alabama standout was shipped to the Colts in exchange for a first-round pick. Two seasons with Indianapolis netted him 1,082 yards and six touchdowns.

The plodding back hasn't been able to rush for more than 3.6 yards per carry during his three seasons in the NFL, and struggled to stand out in Raiders camp.

Richardson carried the ball 15 times for 42 yards during the preseason.

The Raiders have also reportedly waived former New England Patriots receiver Kenbrell Thompkins.
