The Hammers visited a Liverpool side that hadn't conceded in its first three games of the Premier League campaign, but the home side's defense put in a lacklustre performance as the Reds fell in a 3-0 loss.

"In these moments you have to keep your head up and to play the rest of the game. I tried everything but what can I say? It was a bad decision by me and mistakes happen," the 26-year-old told the club website.

The Croatian has received criticism for his form since his £20-million move from Southampton last summer, and this latest mishap hasn't helped matters.

"I'm the first one who is disappointed with myself. Of course for the first minute after the second goal I wanted to go under the table. What can I do?"

Instead Liverpool dropped down the table to seventh, two places below its rivals and next opponents.

"But it is finished. The game is finished. I've forgotten it already. Now it is the national team and in two weeks we have Manchester United."

Liverpool vs. Manchester United, one of the most anticipated fixtures in the Premier League calendar, will be played on Sept. 12.
