Karolina Pliskova has had an incredible 2015 season, reaching five finals including capturing her fourth career title at the Prague Open in her native Czech Republic.

Unfortunately, the 23-year-old has failed to translate the success to the majors.

Despite achieving a top-10 ranking for the first time this year, the No. 8 seed failed to advance past the third round in a major. It got worse Monday as she was embarrassed in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 by American qualifier Anna Tatishvili in the first round of the US Open.

Ranked 121st in the WTA, Tatishvili converted on five of nine break-point opportunities and took advantage of 18 Pliskova unforced errors. She needed only 51 minutes to clinch the victory and advance to the Round 2 at Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2012.

Player Aces Winners Unforced Errors
Pliskova 4 9 18
Tatishvili 2 15 10

Tatishvili advances to face fellow 25-year-old American, 47th-ranked Madison Brengle, who needed three sets to beat Zheng Saisai of China on Monday.
