South Carolina loses 2 receivers to injury

Christopher Hanewinckel / USA TODAY Sports

South Carolina has been dealt a blow just a few days ahead of the season opener, with two receivers suffering injuries.

Head coach Steve Spurrier told reporters Sunday that redshirt freshman Shaq Davidson will miss the 2015 season after tearing a ligament in his knee during practice. Davidson is set to have surgery, but it won't be restricted to the recently revealed torn ligament in his knee.

"He's scheduled to have surgery on his other knee in about six weeks. It had been bothering him also," Spurrier said. "He'll have his second redshirt year this year."

And another receiver may miss the season after suffering an injury in practice on Sunday.

Incoming freshman Jerad Washington broke his leg, and was headed into surgery on Sunday night, his father Reggie tweeted.

South Carolina kicks off its season against North Carolina on Thursday.
