Jay Gruden expects to meet with Redskins management about Week 1 starter

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden doesn't believe he has a quarterback controversy on his hands. He also hasn't decided who will get the nod for the regular-season opener.

"I've said it all along, I believe we have three NFL-caliber quarterbacks on our team and we're fortunate," Gruden told reporters after Saturday's 31-13 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post.

Robert Griffin III was initially slated to start Saturday, but was ruled out after further evaluation from an independent neurologist. It has been recommended that Griffin take one-to-two weeks of rest before undergoing additional tests, putting his status for the Sept. 13 opener in question.

Gruden said Griffin's neurological tests and a film review of Saturday's game will factor into his decision. He also said he expects to meet with general manager Scot McCloughan, president Bruce Allen, and owner Daniel Snyder to reach an agreement regarding the team's Week 1 starter.

Gruden shot down a report by ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini that the Redskins plan to start Kirk Cousins over Griffin in Week 1.

"You know, Scot and I will have a long discussion, and obviously, he's part of our organization as is Bruce Allen as is Dan Snyder and we'll all talk about it," Gruden said. "But, we're going to put the best 53 on the field that we think is going to win against Miami, period.

"There's no hidden agendas whatsoever. This is a Washington Redskins decision and I have total faith we'll make the right one - all of us together."
