Dante to complete transfer to Wolfsburg on 3-year contract

No longer will the Allianz Arena be home to the widest smile in football.

Bayern Munich released Dante on Sunday, and agreed to terms with VfL Wolfsburg for an immediate transfer that will see the 31-year-old centre-back sign a three-year contract with Die Wolfe.

Dante, who requested his release, will complete an obligatory pre-transfer medical in Wolfsburg before putting pen to paper on a deal.

"Dante simply wanted the chance to play regularly," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said of the decision. "We did not want to deny him this opportunity."

Regular playing time is something the Brazilian defender struggled with at Bayern. He only appeared in one of he club's first three Bundesliga fixtures of the season, finding himself below Jerome Boateng, Medhi Banatia, Holger Badstuber, and Javi Martinez in the pecking order.
