The Atlanta Falcons signed Julio Jones to a five-year extension, the team announced Saturday.

While the team didn't release financial details, Jones signed a contract worth $71.2 million with $47 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Jones' $14.2 million average per year is the second-highest total among all receivers, second only to Detroit's Calvin Johnson.

Jones is coming off the best season of his career, recording 104 receptions for 1,593 yards and six touchdowns.

The Falcons' star said he wouldn't hold out in hopes of an extension, but made it clear he wanted to remain with the organization for the duration of his career.

Atlanta set a self-imposed deadline to agree on an extension with Jones, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Jones is one of the NFL's marquee wide receivers and it was of paramount importance for the team to lock up the 25-year-old in the first year of head coach Dan Quinn's regime.
