Jaguars' Blake Bortles turns in strong performance vs. Lions

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

Blake Bortles is looking to show he's capable of being the Jacksonville Jaguars' franchise quarterback, and there was plenty to like early on in Friday's preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

The second-year signal-caller led the Jaguars' offense on a 15-play, 82-yard touchdown drive in the first quarter, which was capped off by this 13-yard pass to Allen Hurns.

Perfect ball from Bortles to Allen Burns for 6.

Bortles went on to put together an impressive performance overall, finishing the game 20-of-27 for 245 yards and the one touchdown.

The 2014 No. 3 overall pick was unable to build on similar promise as a rookie, but the poise he's demonstrated of late is certainly a positive sign for his early career development.

Bortles taking a significant step forward in his sophomore season would go a long way toward helping Jacksonville post its first winning record since 2007.
