Report: Texans' Ryan Mallett missed practice after oversleeping

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Three days after losing the starting job to Brian Hoyer, Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett missed practice after oversleeping, according to multiple reports.

Mallett did attend meetings later in the day and will probably be fined for the oversight, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.

With head coach Bill O'Brien citing consistency and leadership as his main reasons for selecting Hoyer as the starting quarterback, Mallett picked a poor time to sleep in and miss practice.

The Texans will play the New Orleans Saints on Sunday and Mallett is expected to play after returning on Friday.
