Falcons' Tevin Coleman will play vs. Dolphins; Devonta Freeman's status unclear

Brett Davis / USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta Falcons running back Tevin Coleman is expected to make his preseason debut Saturday versus the Miami Dolphins, head coach Dan Quinn confirmed.

Coleman missed the team's first two preseason games with a hamstring injury and is battling against Devonta Freeman for the team's starting running back position.

Freeman's status remains unknown, with the 23-year-old running back also battling a hamstring injury.

"At this point, it looks like Tevin is a little closer than Devonta, just from the week of practice," Quinn said Thursday to ESPN's Vaughn McClure. "I'm anxious for (Coleman) to get in. And I know he's anxious."

Coleman was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Indiana, while Freeman was picked in the fourth round of the 2014 Draft. Freeman rushed for 248 yards and a touchdown last season.
