Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers revealed after Monday's 1-0 win over Bournemouth that captain Jordan Henderson was forced to leave the match early due to a foot problem that hampered him for much of the week leading up to the contest at Anfield.

Henderson limped off the pitch in the 52nd minute, and his substitution left some scratching their heads as to both the cause and severity of the ailment - there was no visible tackle that seemed to result in the problem.

"He had a problem with the bottom of his foot," Rodgers said of the midfielder after the victory. "He hadn't trained for part of the week.

"He was taking some painkillers with it, and did ever so well to even be out on the field. He wanted to give it a go, but you could see he was limited in his running.

"He did great for us when he was on the pitch, but it's important we have fit players on the field, and unfortunately he was just in too much pain."

Henderson, whose cross set up the only goal of the match in the opening half, was replaced by Emre Can, the latter coming on and doing a fine job of controlling the middle of the park in his captain's stead.

Rodgers did not elaborate on whether Henderson is in danger of missing the Reds' next match, a delectable contest against Arsenal on Aug. 24.
