FC Porto announced the signing of Argentinian-born Italian international striker Pablo Dani Osvaldo on Wednesday.

With the departure of Jackson Martinez to Atletico Madrid during this summer's transfer window, the Portuguese giants are desperate to replace the Colombian international's goals, and are hoping the well-travelled Osvaldo can fill the void.

Osvaldo joins his 12th club in 10 years following a spell with Southampton and subsequent loans to Juventus, Inter Milan, and Boca Juniors.

Controversy has followed him from club to club, as his fiery demeanor ensures he's never far from trouble. His manager at Southampton, Mauricio Pochettino - who spent a club-record £15 million for the striker only to destroy his contract after two seasons - offered a polite description: "He has a reputation and he deserves it."

"He is a player of character," he continued, "with a lot of passion, a lot of heart and who is very emotional. But he is growing every day and we are happy with how he is doing and with his behaviour. He is a friendly guy and a good team-mate."

After head-butting Saints teammate and club captain Jose Fonte in training, preparations were quickly made for Osvaldo's exit, and the mercurial player has failed to find a home for his undeniable talents since.

Porto is hoping Osvaldo can suppress his combative tendencies to bag some goals for the club looking to snatch the top-flight title from Benfica.
