Jets' Devin Smith suffered punctured lung in addition to broken ribs

New York Jets wide receiver Devin Smith suffered a punctured lung in addition to broken ribs Friday during a training-camp practice, according to Dom Cosentino of NJ.com.

Albert Breer of NFL Network reports Smith could be out four-to-six weeks with the injury, which would put his status for Week 1 in significant doubt.

Following practice on Saturday, head coach Todd Bowles said Smith remained in the hospital as a precaution and the team later confirmed he would remain there overnight.

The rookie suffered the injuries while making a diving catch and his status for the Jets' opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 13 is uncertain. "One person familiar with the situation said the lung was only 'slightly' punctured, and that Smith would be OK," reports Cosentino.
