NCAA approves TyQuane Goard's transfer to West Virginia

Dismissed Marshall forward TyQuane Goard has been added to the West Virginia men's basketball team roster after having his transfer waiver approved by the NCAA, the Mountaineers announced Friday.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound senior is a graduate transfer and will be eligible to play for his new team this season.

Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins praised the addition of Goard, saying the Charleston, S.C., native could provide some much-needed frontline assistance to a depleted roster.

"With the injury to Brandon Watkins, TyQuane adds much-needed depth and athleticism to the front line," Huggins said in a statement on the school's website. "His athleticism and skill set are well suited to our style of play."

Goard was dismissed by Marshall before last season for allegedly violating team rules. His former coach, Dan D'Antoni, reportedly blocked his transfer to West Virginia last month, according to Allan Taylor of Metro News.

In the 2013-14 season with Marshall, Goard played in 31 of 33 games, making 16 starts, while averaging 6.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

He played his freshman season at Ohio University, where he averaged 1.7 points and 1.5 rebounds, and blocked six shots in 29 games for the Bobcats.
