Louis van Gaal on Marouane Fellaini's 3-match suspension: 'I have to look at other players'

Manchester United will be kicking off its Premier League campaign without the services of Marouane Fellaini, who received a red card against Hull City on the final matchday of last season and will therefore be resigned to the bench for the first three matches.

Add in the fact that United has signed Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin this summer, and Fellaini's place in the club's starting XI looks to be in jeopardy.

Speaking in Seattle, where United defeated Club America in the opening match of its preseason tour of the United States, manager Louis van Gaal addressed Fellaini's situation and indicated the afro-clad midfielder will have to fight to regain his place in the squad.

"Fellaini is suspended for the first three matches and he has longer to be ready, so I have to look at other players," Van Gaal said, according to the Guardian.

Although Van Gaal deployed different sides in the first half and second half of United's win versus America, Fellaini didn't take the pitch and was forced to watch Schneiderlin put in a phenomenal performance.
