Couture on fight with Fedor: 'It'd be something I'd really have to think hard about'

The revelation that Fedor Emelianenko is training to return to mixed martial arts has been brought to the attention of UFC legend Randy Couture.

The three-time UFC heavyweight champion was asked whether he would come out of retirement to fight The Last Emporer.

"Well obviously it's a fight that, in our heyday, I think would have been an amazing fight – in a crossover fight for that time," Couture told Sports Illustrated Now host Maggie Gray.

Despite a modest answer to begin, Couture couldn't help but really consider the superfight.

"Whether or not I'd be willing to step out there now at 52 years old and come back out of retirement after four years of working on all the other stuff in my life, I don't know, it'd be something I'd really have to think hard about," he said.

The Natural left the possibility wide open.

"Can you ever say 'no,' can you ever say 'absolutely not.' I don't think there's anything that's absolute in this world," he said.

Fictitious or not, the fight would undeniably be hailed as legendary, even if both fighters would have to resurrect their careers.

Fight promotion Bellator continuously regenerates the careers of former big name fighters, acting as the Frankenstein of mixed martial arts with live scientific experiments carried out in the cage.

Scott Coker, Bellator president and modern day martial arts mad genius Victor Frankenstein, was on hand during the interview to offer his comments.

"For the record, we haven't even talked about this, but, if Randy wanted to get back in the cage, we would definitely have a serious conversation," he said.

Fedor hasn't decided what promotion he will be fighting with, his opponents, or given a timeline for his return.
