The Florida Panthers have agreed to terms with restricted free agent defenseman Alex Petrovic on a two-year contract.

Petrovic appeared in 33 games in his third NHL season, registering three assists and 34 penalty minutes.

The 23-year-old notched 20 points in 41 games for the AHL's San Antonio Rampage.

"We are very pleased to have re-signed Alex,” general manager Dale Tallon said.

“Alex is a strong, physical defenseman who possesses great size and strength. He took great strides last season, logging valuable minutes for the Panthers. He was one of the Rampage’s top players and was named an American Hockey League All-Star. He is another building block for our team’s future.”

Petrovic was a second-round pick of the Panthers in 2010.

The club also signed forwards Quinton Howden and John McFarland to one-year, two-way contracts.
