In Gee Chun shoots final-round 66 to win U.S. Women's Open
In Gee Chun saved her best for Sunday, shooting a 4-under 66 to overtake countrywoman Amy Yang and win the 70th U.S. Women's Open by one stroke.
Yang entered the final round with a three-stroke lead but fell behind with bogeys on the 11th, 14th, and 15th holes at Lancaster Country Club. Chun came out firing with three birdies in her first seven holes and also recorded consecutive birdies on 15, 16, and 17.
Chun's Sunday rally appeared to be in jeopardy after Yang eagled 16 and birdied 17 to pull within one stroke. Chun dropped into a tie with Yang after missing a 12-foot putt for par on the 18th hole, but Yang also bogeyed 18, giving Chun the victory at 8-under par in her first career U.S. Women's Open.
Fellow Korean Inbee Park shot 3-under in the final round to earn a share of third place alongside American Stacy Lewis, who entered Sunday in the final pairing with Yang. Brooke M. Henderson, Pernilla Lindberg, So Yeon Ryu, Jane Park, Morgan Pressel, and Shiho Oyama finished in a tie for fifth.
