Germany's Tony Martin won Stage 4 of the Tour de France on Tuesday, in the process claiming the yellow jersey from Chris Froome and opening up a 12-second lead over the Kenyan.

The Etixx - Quick-Step rider finally broke through after close finishes the past few days and celebrated with his teammates at the finish line, pumping his fist as he crossed.

"After a flat tire, changing bike, suddenly 5km to the finish nobody really wanted to pull," Martin said following the stage. "Somehow I found some power and I made it. I don’t know what happened. I was so nervous I think I pulled more than I ever did. A thousand thanks to my team, I’m super happy."

Andre Greipel finished the race's longest stage holding the green jersey as points leader, while Joaquim Rodriguez claimed the polka dot jersey as the top climber. Peter Sagan has the white jersey as the top young rider in the competition.
