Rays' Souza lands on DL with finger laceration

Tampa Bay Rays slugger Steven Souza was placed on the disabled list Tuesday with a finger laceration after getting hit by a pitch in Sunday's series finale against the New York Yankees.

Souza, who leads the Rays with 15 homers, required three stitches to treat the deep gash on his right pinkie finger, but told reporters that tests revealed no damage to the tendon. He's eligible to rejoin the team July 21.

"It's still numb, but it's not a huge concern," Souza said Monday. "The hand specialist doesn't think that's a big concern of ours. The more that time passes by, the more we'll know what specifically is going on."

In a pair of corresponding roster moves, the Rays activated catcher John Jaso (wrist) from the DL and designated right-handed pitcher Preston Guilmet for assignment.
