Report: Police no longer investigating Jason Pierre-Paul over fireworks accident

Jim Brown / USA TODAY Sports

Things nearly got worse for Jason Pierre-Paul on Tuesday.

After injuring his hands in a fireworks accident on the weekend, Pierre-Paul was the subject of a police investigation regarding the incident. Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reported that the New York Giants pass rusher was being investigated for criminal possession of fireworks by the Coral Springs Police Department.

However, that investigation appears to have concluded without any charges being filed.

Meanwhile, Giants officials have traveled to Florida to assess the extent of the defensive end's injury, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, but have yet to meet with Pierre-Paul.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is reporting the two sides may not do so until Pierre-Paul signs his franchise tag, which he doesn't plan to do until he's healthy.

Rapoport also adds there is still a possibility the 26-year-old could be ready to go for Week 1.

The Giants have already pulled a long-term contract offer worth a reported $60 million, meaning Pierre-Paul will have to sign his franchise tender by the July 15 deadline if he wishes to collect the $14.8 million he would be owed for 2015.
