Patriots, Colts provide best bang for the buck among NFL teams
The New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts are the smartest spenders in the NFL, according to a study conducted by Sreekar Jasthi of NerdWallet.
The study analyzed the win-loss records and payroll data of all 92 professional football, basketball, and baseball franchises dating back to 2000 to determine which teams achieved the most success per dollar spent. The Patriots came out on top, followed by the NBA's San Antonio Spurs and MLB's Miami Marlins.
The Colts are the second most financially efficient team in the NFL and the sixth most efficient of all professional sports teams. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, and Green Bay Packers round out the NFL's top five.
Coming in last among NFL teams are the Detroit Lions, followed by Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders, Buffalo Bills, and Arizona Cardinals.
