Tigers claim Krauss off waivers from Rays

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Tigers have acquired some roster relief as Miguel Cabrera occupies the next month on the disabled list.

First baseman Marc Krauss was claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday, two days after the Tigers announced Cabrera would likely miss the next six weeks with a left calf strain.

The move marks the third organization for Krauss this season, previously suiting up for the Los Angeles Angels and Rays. In 15 games this season, the 27-year-old is hitting .133/.188/.267 with one home run, three doubles, and 18 strikeouts.

Krauss provides the Tigers with some relief at first base after starting catcher Alex Avila at the position the past two games.
