When Kevin Love first came on the scene as a portly freshman with the UCLA Bruins he looked like this:

In his own words, Love called himself "doughy."

But Love wielded his heft, turning his size into an advantage. Along with Russell Westbrook, Love led the Bruins to a Final Four appearance while averaging 17.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. He was a bruising power forward who bullied opponents in the paint.

His dominance as a freshman in college prompted Love to opt for the NBA, where he was drafted fifth overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves and eventually blossomed into a superstar.

Today, Love remains a superstar and a load in the post. But much has changed for Love. He's now playing third fiddle with the Cleveland Cavaliers, while his game has migrated out to the 3-point line. And his portly frame? That's changed, too.

Love graces the cover of this year's ESPN The Magazine's Body Issue, in which he opens up about the shoulder injury that knocked him out of the playoffs.
