Rangers' Hamilton undergoes MRI on strained groin

Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton is in jeopardy of making his third trip to the disabled list this season.

Hamilton, who's appeared in just three games since returning from a hamstring injury, underwent an MRI on Saturday after leaving Friday's game in the seventh inning with a strained right groin. The results have yet to be revealed, but the injury is significant enough that it could require a DL stint, according to Stefan Stevenson of the Star-Telegram.

Hamilton was held out of the lineup Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels, and won't play in Sunday's series finale, either.

"Obviously, we'll see where he is throughout the night," manager Jeff Banister told reporters Saturday. "We'll continue to try to manage how he feels. This is a guy we'd like to have for an extended period of time. I'm trying my best to figure this whole thing out with him and what is best for Josh."

Friday's start marked Hamilton's first time playing consecutive games since he played seven straight following his season debut in late May. His reunion with the Rangers was cut short after just one week when he strained his left hamstring on a game-winning double May 31.

The former AL MVP missed close to two months to begin the year because of offseason shoulder surgery.
