Gyorko started for the fourth straight day Friday and finished 2-for-4 with a homer in the Padres' win over St. Louis.
Analysis:
The homer came against Cards right-hander Michael Wacha in the seventh inning, and the Padres seem to be giving him a look as the everyday second baseman while Cory Spangenberg is on the disabled list. Gyorko seemed to get back on track at Triple-A El Paso during his a 16-game demotion (.854 OPS), and the organization's investment in him should afford him a reasonably long window in the coming weeks to return to the form he showed in 2013 (.249/.301/.444, 23 homers).
