Rangers designate Neftali Feliz for assignment

Joe Nicholson / USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers are parting ways with right-hander Neftali Feliz after seven seasons.

Feliz, an All-Star and Rookie of the Year in 2010 after converting 40 saves, was designated for assignment by the organization Friday.

The 27-year-old has battled injuries throughout his career, undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2012 that forced him to miss 157 games over two seasons.

Feliz has thrown just 54 innings in three seasons since undergoing the procedure to repair the UCL in his throwing arm, posting a 2.83 ERA and 1.27 WHIP.

Having avoided arbitration with a one-year, $4.125-million deal in January, Feliz battled consistency and injuries once again this season, posting a 5.09 ERA across 17 2/3 innings while landing on the DL in May with an abscess in his right side.
