Mets' GM Sandy Alderson would overpay to acquire Zobrist but he believes that billy beans has pulled Zobrist off the trade table, the NY Post reports.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson acknowledged he would overpay to acquire Zobrist, but he believes that Oakland GM Billy Beane has pulled the utility man off the trade table, the NY Post reports.

Analysis:

Oakland has won 12 of its last 18 games, which has likely prevented Beane from labeling his squad as "sellers" at the July 31 deadline. Zobrist, if acquired, would play second base for the Mets but could fill in at third and in left field. He has the sort of on-base percentage that Alderson loves, but for now, a deal looks unlikely. The Mets would be one of several contenders interested in Zobrist's services.
