Blake Swihart: To DL With Foot Sprain

Swihart, who has been battling a left foot sprain, was placed on the 15-day DL Friday, the Providence Journal's Tim Britton reports.

Analysis:

Boston will use Ryan Hanigan and Sandy Leon at catcher with Swihart out of action, and even once he's healthy it might make sense to send him to Triple-A so that he can get something going at the plate. He had just a .279 OBP so far this season, so this should not be a major blow to fantasy teams. Even if Swihart rejoins the Red Sox when eligible it's possible that Hanigan may be used as the primary catcher. The move will be backdated to July 1.
