Oshie on chance to play with Ovechkin, Backstrom: 'I feel ... like a kid in a candy store'

American-born T.J. Oshie thinks "it's really cool" to play for his nation's capital after being traded to the Washington Capitals on Thursday, but the idea of forming a top-line trio with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom has the forward thrilled.

"It would be something I’ve never experienced before," Oshie said on a conference call. "I’ve always played with very good players, players that have played in the Olympics, but never players that have put up numbers like those two guys have.

"To get out there with them would be amazing. I’d be excited. I feel kind of like a kid in a candy store playing with that caliber of players."

The 28-year-old former first-round pick was traded from the St. Louis Blues to Washington in exchange for Troy Brouwer, Pheonix Copley, and a 2016 third-round pick.

Oshie, who can dazzle with the puck, will bring his 310 career points to an already dangerous Capitals lineup, which, once again, he's really looking forward to joining.

"I couldn’t be more excited about going to Washington."

The Capitals finished last season with 101 points, and were eliminated in the second round of the postseason after a tight series with the New York Rangers.
