Washington Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan was forced to watch the team's offseason workouts from the sideline while he recovered from surgery on his left knee, but is encouraged by the progress he's made.

Now six months removed from surgery, Kerrigan has started running again and is focused on rebuilding strength.

"I'm doing really well," Kerrigan told JP Finlay of CSNWashington.com.

Kerrigan, the No. 16 overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, has yet to miss a game in his four years with the Redskins. He led the team with 13.5 sacks and five forced fumbles last season.

The Redskins open training camp July 30 and Kerrigan appears to be on track to return in time.

"My leg feels really good and I'm glad I got the surgery - not just for football but it makes my everyday life feel better so I'm glad I got it done," Kerrigan said. "Now it's just a matter of getting strong and getting into shape."
