Erixon was traded Wednesday to the Penguins along with forwards Phil Kessel and Tyler Biggs and a 2016 second-round draft pick in exchange for forwards Nick Spaling and Kasperi Kapanen, defenseman Scott Harrington, and first- and third-round draft picks in 2016, Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis:
Erixon was expected to enjoy a regular role with Toronto in 2015-16, but his path to ice time is a bit more muddled upon landing in Pittsburgh. The 24-year-old showed some semblance of offensive upside in the minors while he was a member of the Blue Jackets organization, but it hasn't materialized quite yet at the NHL level. In 93 career games, he's managed only two goals and 12 assists.
