Smith was traded Wednesday by the Bruins to the Panthers in a deal for Jimmy Hayes, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.

Analysis:

Per the report, Florida will also acquire the contract of the injured Marc Savard in a move that clears up some serious cap room for the Bruins. Smith, who signed a two-year, $6.85 million extension with Boston last March, is coming off a disappointing campaign in which he recorded 13 goals and 40 points in 81 games. At 24 years of age though, Smith -- who possesses good stick skills and speed -- is certainly very capable of bouncing back with the Panthers.
