Yankees' Beltran not in lineup vs. Angels
Carlos Beltran was omitted from the New York Yankees' lineup Wednesday in Anaheim, less than 24 hours after a ribcage injury forced him to an early exit against the Los Angeles Angels.
Beltran, who left Tuesday's game after appearing to hurt himself during his at-bat in the fifth inning, will test his swing in the batting cages, though, and hopes to be available to pinch-hit, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.
Despite his early departure from Tuesday's 2-1 loss, Beltran has been one on the Yankees' most productive contributors of late, hitting .300/.378/.488 with nine extra-base hits in June to raise his OPS to .739 this season.
Still, the eight-time All-Star recently lamented how his performance, though still somewhat respectable, has trailed off since joining the Yankees prior to the 2014 campaign.
"I'm not 21 anymore. I'm 38," Beltran told ESPN's Andrew Marchand. "That doesn't mean I'm broke, but they won't see the Carlos who was stealing bases and making crazy catches in the outfield. Of course, every year passes by, you lose a little bit of everything. I still feel like I can be productive."
