The Toronto Blue Jays were so eager to jump-start their Canada Day celebration, they started the fireworks before the first inning was even over.

Justin Smoak hit two homers - one from each side of the plate - to help the Blue Jays put the Boston Red Sox in an early 8-0 hole after just three innings Wednesday at Rogers Centre.

Smoak blasted a two-run shot from the left side of the plate off Rick Porcello during a five-run first inning that also included a three-run blast from Edwin Encarnacion. One inning later, Jose Bautista added a fourth Blue Jays homer - a two-run shot to make it 7-0 - to chase Porcello from the game after just six outs.

Smoak then became the sixth player in franchise history to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game when he drilled a solo shot as a right-handed hitter off left-hander Robbie Ross Jr. in the third. After the game, Smoak suggested the Blue Jays' high-powered lineup is the best one he's ever hit in.

"I feel like in 2010 when I was with Texas ... that offense was really good," Smoak told reporters. "This one's a lot better than that one."

Porcello, who has now allowed at least five runs in five of his last eight starts, exited after giving up seven runs on seven hits in two innings.

Josh Donaldson added to the offensive barrage with a two-run shot of his own in the eighth - the Blue Jays' fifth of the game - to put an exclamation point on the 11-2 blowout victory.
