Stars bringing back veteran forward Eaves on 1-year contract

DALLAS (AP) The Stars signed forward Patrick Eaves to a one-year contract Wednesday after a solid first season in Dallas.

Eaves had 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists) in 47 games last season, leading the Stars with a plus-minus rating of plus-12. He had a career-high six power-play goals.

Later Wednesday, Dallas also announced the signing of left wing Curtis McKenzie to a two-year contract after his NHL debut with Dallas last season.

Eaves, a 31-year-old journeyman, has 173 points (88 goals, 85 assists) in 491 games over 10 seasons, with other stops in Ottawa, Carolina, Detroit and Nashville.

Eaves was a first-round pick by Ottawa in 2003. He signed with Dallas as a free agent last summer.

The 24-year-old McKenzie had four goals with 48 penalty minutes in 36 games for the Stars last season. Dallas selected him in the sixth round of the 2009 draft.

In parts of three AHL seasons with the Texas Stars, McKenzie had 87 points (33 goals, 54 assists) with 152 penalty minutes in 111 regular-season games.
