Bills sign veteran offensive tackle Wayne Hunter

Desperate to add depth and competition on the offensive front, the Buffalo Bills are giving Wayne Hunter an opportunity to continue his NFL career after spending the past two seasons on the sidelines.

Hunter worked out with the club at mandatory minicamp last month, and the Bills announced Wednesday that they've signed the veteran tackle to an undisclosed contract.

The 33-year-old has been a backup player for the majority of his career, including time with the New York Jets under head coach Rex Ryan.

"He is a guy that did a tremendous job for us early," Ryan said of Hunter. "I think in an ideal world there are some players for whatever reason that are better in multiple roles and being almost like a utility guy, playing guard, tackle, tight end. Giving you a lot of that versatility, a smart athletic guy."

Hunter last played for the St. Louis Rams in 2012, when he started four of his 14 regular-season games played.
