The Vancouver Canucks have dealt power winger Zack Kassian and a fifth-round pick to the Montreal Canadiens for Brandon Prust.

Kassian showed flashes of immense potential with Vancouver, but was mired by inconsistency. He scored 32 goals and 59 points in his 171 games with the franchise, adding 287 penalty minutes.

Fellow tough guy Prust ranked third in the league with 16 fights last season. He arrives on a lofty $2.5-million salary.

Coincidentally, Cody Hodgson, who was the centerpiece of the deal that landed Kassian in Vancouver, was purchased out of his contract by the Buffalo Sabres and signed by the Nashville Predators just moments before the deal was reported.
