The Colorado Avalanche have nabbed their left-handed defenseman.

Free agent Francois Beauchemin signed a three-year contract with the club Wednesday, worth a reported $4.5-million per season, according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.

The 35-year-old is a veteran of 673 NHL games, with 60 goals and 159 assists to his credit. He also carries 97 games of playoff experience, winning a Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks back in 2007.

"Francois brings toughness, leadership and a veteran presence to our blue line," said Avalanche president and general manager Joe Sakic. "We are excited to have him as part of our defense for the next three seasons."

Beauchemin will bring a steady presence to an Avalanche blue line clearly in need of reinforcements.
