Report: Free-agent defensive back C.J. Spillman charged with sexual assault

Free-agent cornerback C.J. Spillman has been charged with sexual assault in Tarrant County, Texas, according to Michael O'Keeffe of the New York Daily News.

The indictment, handed down by a local grand jury on Monday, stems from a Sept. 20, 2014 incident in which Spillman is accused of attacking a woman at the Dallas Cowboys' team hotel. Spillman played for Dallas the following day in St. Louis and was not disciplined by the league or the Cowboys.

Shortly after the incident, coach Jason Garrett said the team would not take action unless his player was formally charged or arrested.

Spillman was also accused of sexually assaulting a massage therapist while playing for the San Francisco 49ers in 2013, but was neither arrested nor charged.
