Hawks officially promote Budenholzer, Wilcox

ATLANTA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Hawks announced Tuesday that head coach Mike Budenholzer has been promoted to president of basketball operations. The team also moved assistant general manager Wes Wilcox to the GM role.

The changes were first reported last week, before the sale of the Hawks was complete.

Named NBA Coach of the Year this past season, Budenholzer was first named head coach on May 28, 2013. He engineered the team to the Southeast Division title and a 60-22 mark this past season.

Wilcox had served the last three seasons as the team's assistant GM. He takes over for Denny Ferry, who resigned his position as general manager on June 22.

It's the first big front office moves for the Hawks since the team was officially sold June 24 to a group led by billionaire Tony Ressler.

"From our prospective as new owners, a key part of what we bought into is the leadership and proven success of Coach Bud and Wes heading the club's basketball operations," a statement said from Ressler and former NBA star Grant Hill, the chair and vice chair of the board of directors of the Hawks.

"Their collaboration was instrumental in leading our team to its 60-win season this year, and we are excited to have them continue their great work for years to come,"
