Carroll and Eric Rowe are competing for a starting cornerback job, according to CSN Philadelphia's Geoff Mosher.

Analysis:

Carroll has 27 career starts through five seasons, but Rowe is a second-round rookie with an ideal blend of size and speed. The Eagles obviously hope Rowe will prove worthy of the starting job, but the rookie's versatility (he also can play safety) might work in Carroll's favor if it's a close call. Rowe is the more promising IDP prospect, as Carroll has never topped 43 tackles in a season.
