Lawson Crouse didn't have much time to savor being a first-round selection of the Florida Panthers before stepping onto the ice.

Crouse, who was drafted 11th overall Friday, stuck around in Florida to participate in the team's annual development camp starting Sunday night. His effort in the camp's first day was enough to impress general manager Dale Tallon.

"You always have to be ready," Crouse told the Panthers' official website. "It was a short turnaround, but for the most part I was ready to go. Right when I was drafted they told me that camp was starting on Sunday night and leading into today. I knew what I was in for, so I rested over the weekend, spent time with friends and family and was ready to go for today."

Crouse joined Florida's other prospects for on-ice workouts Monday, adding to the growing stable of talent the Panthers hope to develop into roster players. Tallon has seen a steady improvement in prospect depth with every year.

"There's a lot of good assets out there, really good," Tallon said. "We've got size, we've added some speed, some skill, some scoring, big goaltenders. I'm very, very happy with the first day."
